National Rallycross Round 2

postdateiconTuesday, 21 June 2011 11:25 | PDF

Sunday 19th saw Rally cross turn its attention to Navan Nitro Club for Round 2 of the National Championship. With a new track layout at the venue many took the opportunity of open practice on Saturday to familiarize them selves with the track. On Sunday morning rain over night gave the track a different dimension for the start of the day with the damp Astro meaning a change of setup for some to cope with the conditions.

Once Qualifying started the sun came out and after round two we where racing on a dry track. This was evident with a drop in lap times with some of the fastest laps seen around the NNN track. The qualifying was to prove a close affair between the top 10 drivers with only a few seconds splitting the pack. In the end it was Bradley Braid’s Associated Rc8 which took top spot. Bradley kept this pace going and was cruised to victory and the overall win for Round 2.

Barkley Abernethy driving a Xray 808 was a close second place, giving Bradley a early dice during the final but lost out to his rival who claimed victory number 2 at the Navan venue.

3rd place was the toughest to secure during the final with drivers from third place back to seventh all on the same laps. In the end it was a fine drive by Alan Scroggie driving a Xray 808 which secured the position with a clean finish to his race.

In the Truggy Race it was Frank McGoey driving a Cen matrix who was to Pole the Final after qualifying with a fine display of driving. Followed by Carel Mienie in a Losi 8 Truggy taking second place

This was to carry continue through the finals with Frank getting a clean start and storming ahead. After 30 min’s it was Frank who kept it clean to claim victory over Carel along with a well earned 100pts.
