Wednesday, 07 September 2011 01:59
The final round of the 1/10 electric 4wd series took place last weekend with the top places still up for grabs between a few of drivers.
Qualifying was a tight affair in the clubman class with all drivers separated by only a few seconds. In the end it was Ian Hunter who took pole for the final with Ivan Thompson and Eoin Keating completing the top three.
In modified it the championship was open for a number of drivers to claim the Championship with a win in this round. Like in clubman the qualifying was tough to call but in the end it was Derek McCloskey that took pole ahead of close rivals William White and Micheal Bolger.
With the qualifying over we where in for an epic race for top spot in both classes. Unfortunately this was not to happen as the heavens opened as the racers completed the final qualifiers. With the rain pouring down the race organisers took the decision to call a halt to the racing and after waiting for the rain to stop a decision was called and the event called with the results based on qualifying.
This gave Derek McCloskey the win and the 4wd Championship and Ian Hunter the win in Clubman along with the Championship for 2011. Congratulation to both drivers and to all the racers who took part in the 2011 4wd championship.

Last weekend saw the DMCC hold the second 2wd National Round which attracted both new and old racers to compete in the event. Derek McCloskey, William White and Michael Bolger where all in attendance with aims at taking the win for the chance at the overall prize of 2wd National Champion 2011. It was Schumacher driver Derek McCloskey who was to take the early advantage with TQ after 4 rounds of Qualifying leaving the others needing to beat him in the Finals. In Leg 1 an early move by the William on Derek cost him dearly dropping him back and allowing the pack to close in and pass him. With the racers packed up tight a few mistakes and wheels touching caused some places to be swapped. After things settled down it was the TLR22 of Colin Whelan who broke free of the pack with a gap he maintained till the end giving him 2nd at the buzzer finishing only a few seconds behind Derek. Behind the battle was for third was between Michael’s B4.1 and William’s TLR 22 who was shuffled back to 5th in the earlier action. After a unforced error by Michael in front of the rostrum it was William who charged passed to take 3rd place and in the end 3rd place for the Leg.
After an action packed start. Leg 2 saw the top three drivers break away after the chasing pack came together after a roll on the middle mound. With some quick marshalling the race was on again and everyone was on a charge to regain the time they lost. Out front Derek prove to be unstoppable and cruised to victory over the field. Behind William was out to improve on his finish in leg 1. He held out over Michael and Tony who where having their own battle. Michael kept it together to take 3rd leaving Tony with a 4th for the leg.
Finishing position for the Modified A Final 1. Derek McCloskey 2. William White 3. Michael Bolger 4. Tony Kavanagh 5. Colin Whelan 6. Michael O’Leary 7. Ian Hunter 8. Bradley Baird
With the round over its Congratulation to Schumacher driver Derek McCloskey who after the Win in round 2 has claimed the Overall win for the Series and the 2wd National Championship Title for 2011.
