2WD Electric National Round1
Sunday June 5th saw the start of the Electric Off-Road 2wd Championship with the action taking place at the DMCC home track in Griffeen Park in Lucan. This event saw drivers from all over Ireland participate in both 2wd Modified and 2wd Clubman class.
With the track laid out and the Practice under way the day was to take a twist with the heavens opening and the rain coming down. This saw a frenzy of action in the pitting tents with alternative tires being glued up and setup changes being made to try and cope with the damp track. These conditions proved difficult for many racers with a constant drizzle of rain falling during the early part of Qualifying and the Finals causing the track to be particularly difficult to get traction on the damp grass.
In the Modified class it was the Derek McCloskey who steered his Schumacher (Cougar SV) firstly to Pole position after Qualifying and then to victory in both Finals with a composed driver in the Mid Motored Buggy. Derek’s setup proved to be coping with the greasy conditions well. He was followed closely in second by Willam White in his Losi (TLR 22) who took advantage of a break in the rain during Q2 and Q3 to post in some competitive times but with the track never fully drying out and the rain falling again in Q4 and for the Finals the new Losi was proving a handful to keep the rear end planted. He managed to hold it together and take Second place in the First A Final giving him second overall for the day. Third overall for the Day was Mick Bolger in his A.E ( B4.1). Mick struggled for pace in qualifying posting times which got him 5th on the grid for the Finals but with the conditions changing for the finals the rear motored car was proving a good choice. In the First final he managed to bump up a few places to 3rd as others where struggling with the worsening conditions. After the Second leg of the Finals he held onto to finish 3rd overall for the day .

Introduced for the 2011 season the clubman class was proving popular with many drivers, with the class proving close racing between many of the racers involved with the 10.5t motor limit and zero boost providing a more even playing field all round.
In this first Clubman race it was Micheal O’Leary who came out on top taking his 2wd A.E (B4.1) to the top spot after qualifying and then victory in the first leg of the Finals to take top spot for the day.
After a close fought battle between the other racers it was a Eoin Keating who tooks 2nd place followed by Ivan Thompson for 3rd
